#DroneOutlook Community on Instagram

My mission at Drone Outlook is to help aspiring drone entrepreneurs, and hopefully inspire people to start a drone business.

I want to use the Drone Outlook platform on Instagram to promote new drone businesses and build a community of remote pilots who learn from each other.

If you want to be featured on this page and @DroneOutlook on Instagram follow these steps:

  • Be a drone-based business – yes, a part-time side hustle counts
  • Have less than 1000 Instagram followers
    • if you’ve got more than 1000 followers then, Contrats!  You’re killing it, and probably don’t need the extra exposure.
  • Make sure your Instagram feed is 100% focused on drone photography/videography
  • Fill out this form

Filling out the form is not a guarantee that you will be featured.

Finally, I’d appreciate it if you follow @DroneOutlook on Instagram and use the hashtag #DroneOutlook to show you’re part of the community!

Share your drone photographer story – how did you get started?

I started getting into drones and drone photography about 3.5 years ago. Before discovering drones I considered myself a photography/videography amateur/ enthusiast. I really enjoy taking creative photos and capturing beautiful landscapes and other interesting sights on my travels.
For 2.5 years now roughly I have been offering services – mostly photography and videography services but I have also delved into technical and industrial type services too. It has been challenging because I’m based right in the heart of the DC area NFZ. So initially I had to really get out there and reach others outside of this ring. In spite of these restrictions, there is a strong creative community here.
I have a tag line on my website – “Got Altitude?” I’m on a journey to discover creative perspectives – sometimes it may be something of the ordinary – but with the drone, either by a photo or video, whatever the moment I’m capturing it becomes something different, something new and interesting…and it becomes art! It’s elevated and I got to inject a little attitude with altitude 🙂 (puns intended). So I hope others will enjoy the journey with me…and just, as they say in the airline industry, sit back and enjoy the flight!

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting drone photography?

It’s exciting and the moment you realize what these magical flying robot cameras can do your brain starts going in a million directions.
  • Spend the time to really learn how to fly.
  • Spend the time to experiment safely and learn proper respect for the skill you’re developing.
  • Take creative risks, not flight risks. Once you’ve honed your skills, decide on your lane and become the best you can at that.
I’ll add too that you’re joining an incredible community of creative people – people willing to help you on your journey. So embrace that too, respect them and enjoy! Oh, and really pay attention to FAA regs!

I was bored in the tractor, scrolling marketplace and saw a cheap 400 dollar mavic air. I bought it without knowing anything about drones.
I have been hooked ever since, selling my mavic air a few weeks later and buying a bunch of nice drones over the next few months.
I’ve been flying for two years now and in business for 1 doing mostly inspections and crop health reports, but I love taking the fun photos. I would love be able to travel for my drone business taking photos and teaching others. Teaching is my passion.
I love taking pictures of agriculture, making the boring Midwest interesting is my goal.

Pick a speciality and focus on it. Don’t try to be ok at everything, strive to be the best at one thing.

I got started flying drones by flying the little 4″ toy drones around the house. I then got a chance to buy a used 1080p drone from a friend that was an avid flyer, and all around model aircraft pilot (planes, jets, drones, etc.).
I have always loved how the Earth looks from above, always insisting I get the window seat whenever I fly. So once I got that first drone in the air, being able to control what I am seeing from above, I became totally hooked.
I do not provide any services yet. I just started studying for my Part 107. Since I started that, we got an Australian Sheppard puppy as well, which makes it difficult to find study time, but that will get better with time.
As for long term goals, still unsure on that yet. Would be nice if the hobby could at least become self-sustaining, haha!

Don’t think you are going to make a ton of money. There are so many pilots out there. Just do what you enjoy, and see where it takes you.

Photography always had a special place for me, more landscape than anything. I was obsessed with aerial photography but only thought this was only attainable with a helicopter; it seemed too far fetched. I contacted a friend that started posting pics from above and fell in love with the drone world. Every chance I get, I run to the beach to put the drone up. Viewing from the sky blows my mind every time. It’s this phenomenal feeling that shows me a new way to look at landscapes, new ways to capture a snapshot in time.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting drone photography?

Just do it, watch some YouTube videos, purchase a mavic mini just to try it out and throw it up there. It’s scary at first but just do it and feel the high. It’s addicting!

I started flying for fun about 3 years ago with a used DJI Phantom 3. After posting pics on my personal page many people started inquiring about hiring me, which led me to get my part 107 in May 2019

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about starting drone photography?

Make it a passion first then you will do what it takes to improve your skills, and always be marketing
